FAQ: How to Park for Free on First Thursday

  • How do I get free parking?
    • You do not need to have a parking voucher in hand before you get to Pioneer Square. When you first arrive in your car, simply pull into a participating garage after 5 pm and park. The parking attendant will not ask for payment upfront. Then you can go on your merry way and explore the art walk! Just be sure to stop into one of the 40+ venues that are giving out free parking vouchers and pick one up. When you leave by 10 pm, simply hand your voucher over to the parking attendant as you exit the garage. Congrats, you just got free parking!!

  • Do I have to go on the art walk to get free parking?
    • Our hope is that you will take advantage of the free parking program to visit the famous First Thursday art walk in Pioneer Square - but if you want to grab dinner or shop in the neighborhood, that's fine with us too. We strategically located the parking vouchers in artsy venues to force you to at least glimpse some of the fabulous local art! Just get here early - free parking is first-come, first-serve.
  • What does "REAL HISTORY. REAL ART" mean?
    • The First Thursday art walk was the first art walk in all the land (read: in the United States) and it started right here in this little historic Seattle neighborhood called Pioneer Square. You'll notice that as you hop from one gallery to another, you'll walk past some pretty beautiful historic architecture. You might even notice the cobbled avenues and purple glass prisms in the sidewalks (which peek into an underground city!). The storied streets and long-standing culture of artistic pursuit in Pioneer Square combine for an art walk experience you can't get anywhere else.
